For Anna Martinez, becoming a Certified Surgical Technologist at Onvida Health was more than just a career move, it was a journey of growth, perseverance, and discovery. The same hospital where she now assists in life-saving surgeries is where she served as a Medical Assistant for five years and where she discovered her passion for surgery. Anna’s story is just one example of how Onvida Health’s Surgical Technologist Internship Program is changing lives and providing the opportunity for meaningful careers in healthcare.
Anna’s decision to pursue surgical technology was driven by a strong desire to grow, and though the road wasn’t without its challenges, each step was a rewarding learning opportunity.
“I remember feeling overwhelmed after my first week. The operating room (OR) felt so intense, so fast-paced,” Anna recalled. “Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and every day in the OR continues to be an exciting chance to learn something new.”
With unwavering determination and the support of a dedicated team of colleagues and mentors, Anna quickly grew in her role. Her hard work and commitment paid off when she passed her certification exam, a proud moment that marked the beginning of her new journey.
Now a full-time Certified Surgical Technologist, Anna takes immense pride in her role. Being part of the surgical team at Onvida – a place that holds so many personal and professional milestones – means everything to her.
“This hospital isn’t just where I work – it’s part of my story,” Anna shared. “My sons were born here. I started my career here. And now, I’m in the operating room, helping to change lives every day. If you’re passionate about helping people and being part of the healing process, do it. This program changed my life, and it can change yours too.”
Melissa Belcher, who oversees Onvida Health’s Surgical Technologist Internship Program, emphasizes the importance of creating pathways for career advancement.
