Cancer Treatment Services
We believe that cancer care should be cutting edge, compassionate and convenient for our patients. That’s why we offer comprehensive cancer services all under one roof in our state-of-the-art facility, close to home.
When a patient visits Onvida Health Cancer Center for diagnosis and treatment, a medical oncologist (cancer care specialist) will be one of the first physicians they see. The oncologist will explain the cancer diagnosis, identify the stage of the cancer, explain what that means for the patient and answer any questions they have. The oncologist will then discuss the various treatment options available and recommend the best course of treatment, including the management of any pain and symptoms, as well as any other specialized treatments that may be helpful.
The medical oncologist assigned to you or your loved one will also collaborate with a radiation oncologist, a physician who uses radiation therapy to treat cancer. A significant number of cancer patients receive some form of radiation treatment.Onvida Health Cancer Center uses a state-of-the-art device called a linear accelerator for radiation treatment because it can direct the radiation treatment to the specific part of the body where it’s needed. It is the highest quality radiation technology available.
Hematology is a medical specialty that focuses on diseases of the blood and bone marrow. Onvida Health Cancer Center has hematologists on staff who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of adult leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other benign hematological disorders. For the convenience and comfort of our patients, blood counts and other laboratory testing as well as any infusion treatments prescribed by our specialists are all offered onsite within our Cancer Center.
An important aspect of our commitment to compassionate care at Onvida Health is the effective management of any pain the patient is experiencing. Since pain is unique to each individual, the cancer care team creates a personalized pain management plan for each patient. This plan may include medications and other therapies such as massage to make the patient as comfortable as possible.
We also offer palliative care which is designed to improve the quality of life for patients who have a serious disease such as cancer. The goal of palliative care is to address the symptoms and side effects of the disease and to meet the patient’s psychological, social and spiritual needs. Palliative care can be provided at any time during a patient’s cancer journey, from the time of diagnosis forward.
At Onvida Health, we do more than provide the latest in modern medicine – we aim to advance it. Through clinical trials, our providers find ways to improve treatment options and quality of life. Click here to see the clinical trials we are currently offering in cancer care and cardiology.
As we continue to make good progress in treating cancer, there is a growing number of cancer survivors. Our Survivorship Clinic is designed to meet their unique needs by providing them with compassionate, evidence-based health care following their cancer diagnosis and treatment. It’s part of our overall commitment to offering our cancer patients caring support every step of the way.
The clinic provides survivors with an individualized summary of their previous cancer treatment as well as a treatment plan targeting their future physical and emotional needs. Additional services offered by the Survivorship Clinic include screening for new or returning cancers, strategies for reducing risks and optimizing wellness, managing late side effects of cancer treatment and initiating referrals for community resources.

Laboratory tests are an important element of quality cancer care, and for the convenience of our patients, the Onvida Health Cancer Center provides laboratory services onsite. The laboratory is located next to the infusion center, and blood drawing stations are available on levels one and two of the center. Routine blood counts and other basic tests are completed onsite. If the patient needs more complex tests as part of their comprehensive care, their blood samples can be sent to the laboratory in Onvida Health’s main campus within a matter of minutes.
In order to provide the best care possible to our patients, the Onvida Health Cancer Center contains a specialized oncology pharmacy that has the ability to mix chemotherapy, fluids and support drugs for the patients in the adjacent infusion center. The pharmacy is operated by licensed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who work directly with the providers and nurses at the Cancer Center.
Each cancer patient at the Onvida Health Cancer Center is assigned to a nurse navigator who will guide them through each step of their cancer journey. These experienced nurses serve as the “bridge” between the patient and their health care team. They help facilitate the patient’s care by providing educational resources and referrals. Nurse navigators also communicate with primary care physicians to ensure that any questions or concerns the patient may have are addressed.
At Onvida Health Cancer Center, we understand that being diagnosed with cancer can be a frightening experience, which is why we offer a variety of support services to ensure that our patients never have to travel this journey alone. One way we do this is by having a Master’s degree-level social worker on staff who can draw upon counseling skills and knowledge of community resources to help patients adjust to living with cancer and provide them with the support they need for their physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.
Studies show that patients who take advantage of supportive care services have better coping skills, experience improved mood levels, get better sleep and are able to tolerate their treatments with more ease. To learn more about full range of supportive care services, click here.
